After working in the medical field for 30 yrs. I came to realize that most disease starts with inflammation. I am a diagnostic ultrasound technologist and in my scope of practice I have imaged tens of thousand's of patients through the years. My intense education in how the body works made me question in our society why are we so sick. It came to me that we rely on medicine to take away our ailments which only contribute to more issues down the road from adverse side effects and the bodies inability to rid itself of synthetic ingredients used to make drugs. Pharmaceuticals are only to be used as a band aide until we can change our life style. The No. 1 life style change to be made is the food we eat. Your body is only as good as the quality of food you put into it.
My goals:
1. Help educate people in the role of herbs for our bodies and how it helps with keeping us as healthy as we each individually can be.
2. Show you how quick and simple it is to use herbs- especially when you use herbal blends.
3. Understand why you are using them on your food.
I have a personal experience in using herbs that I would like to share with you:
As I teenager I had a severe virus that lasted for many weeks leaving me with chronic fatigue, myalgia's and brain fog. I went from specialist to specialist trying to get a diagnosis. Most of my blood work was normal except for elevated inflammatory markers. In my 30's I gave up on trying to get a diagnosis and started focusing all my attention on how I could feel better. Using Eastern Medicine philosophy; acupuncture, yoga, meditation, massage and chiropractic care I truly started to feel better. I still felt something was missing. I would get so far and then start to slide backwards when not keeping up with my appointments. That's when my nutrition came into play. I thought I ate a healthy diet but realized my food was lacking micronutrients as well as flavor. It wasn't until my rheumatologist told me to start supplementing with turmeric, (because he knew I did not want to take the pharmaceuticals) did it dawn on me what my diet was lacking. I am not a pill popper and taking supplements for me was an ordeal. I started opening the capsules and pouring it on top of my food. Why pay all that money on bottled supplements when I can buy my own fresh, organic herbs. When I saw the benefits of turmeric I started studying about all herbs. Whenever anyone in my household started to feel ill I always knew there was something in my cupboards I could use to help the body heal. That's when it dawned on me that why wait until you feel unwell to use herbs. If you use a little in each meal every day it will build up your immune system and help prevent any exacerbation of inflammation daily.
It's amazing to me how this lost art of healing and wellness has vanished. If you follow along with me I hope you discover the best you that you can be too!
